This piece serves as an origin point to Southwest archaeology! H Jay Smith Exploring Company set up the "Cliff Dweller Exhibit" at the 1893 Chicago World Fair alongside the Wetherill family who successfully excavated part of Mesa Verde and other ruins in the Four Corners region of the American Southwest. This souvenir program was handed out to attendees and is EXTREMELY RARE. This historic event served as a key turning point in developing the national interest in the "cliff dwellers" of the American Southwest and helped secured funding for future archaeological expeditions.
